Dreamcast VS Playstation 2 | Graphics Comparison | 5 Games | Side by Side

My audio isn’t too great on this video, I will be sure to take the mic out of my mouth from now on. Also, my Script isn’t very good, I had a bad week, and didn’t rewrite it several times like I normally do. So you will hear Better, Dreamcast and Playstation 2 a Ton. Of course, you can’t really say Dreamcast and Playstation 2 a ton when comparing them.

I pick out 5 games that are on both the Dreamcast and Playstation 2 and compare the graphics. I thought this would be a great idea, and so. Here you go.

The debate between the power specifications of the two consoles continues to this day, the Dreamcast was an overall more balanced machine; ps2 based all of its marketing on the raw ability to draw polygons, but that's not the only way to measure the power of a console. Of all the games you say Dreamcast wouldn't have been able to handle, I think, with variations, it could really run them all. Surely they wouldn't look the same as on a ps2, but that was always the case in that era of vastly different architectures between consoles.

Headhunter is definitely locked at 30fps not 60fps. Dreamcast and PS2 had different strengths and so a game developed for either's strengths would definitely suffer of the other.

Can't argue the PS2 was the most powerful overall but given its newer tech you'd expect it. I just wish we 'd got to see what developers could get out of the DC had they had 5+ years to get to know it.

You gotta remember this tho a PlayStation 2 on a crt looks just as good as Dreamcast on crt when it comes to image clearity

What I never liked about PS2 is how the games look so damn muddy, and dull.

Dreamcast Resoulution is higher than PS2. The VGA option for dreamcast make more easy everything :,D

Nothing is better on ps2. You are deluded. The dreamcast was streets ahead

When you consider Dreamcast came out 3 years after Nintendo 64 in the United States, and yet is considered part of the same generation as the PS2 which was supported well into even the early 2010s, it's kind of insane.

The ps2 sometimes tricks you into thinking it looks better but it's just the blur hiding it's jagged edges. I sometimes prefer the ps2 and sometimes prefer dreamcast so I guess I give it to both.

1st game: PS2 is more blurry.
2nd: PS2 wins by small margin
    3rd: DC wins
    4th: DC wins
    5th: DC wins.
DC was the better console 😛

Textures are better on Dreamcast. The colors where simply an art direction approach

DC better textures and anti-aliasing out of the box due to the GPU being flexible, easy to develop for. PS2, better physics due to the CPU, less flexible GPU. I think the CPU was the bottleneck for the Dreamcast vs the PS2, but then again the GC and Xbox had vastly superior CPU's compared to the PS2, and developers made things work on such a difficult console. Had the DC got 20m-25m install base like the Xbox and GC, we would have seen the system go further and likely keep up with the PS2 graphically or at least be a stones throw away.

lol…every single game shown looks significantly better on Dreamcast. PS2 is a blur fest.

edit: Even the latest PS2 games were also blurry. If the Dreamcast lived on a few more years the games would have also started looking better. Not enough people gave it a chance because of Playstation fanboyism of the late 90s and early 2000s. It was REAL bad during PS1 and PS2 days.

Well yeah let's be honest all the games shown here looks better on dreamcast there is no contest even though I loved my ps2 so much it's the truth and I admit it but . But that was only the beginning I could never ever ever imagine the dreamcast running shadow of the colossus. Mgs 2 and 3 gran turismo 4 wich can output at 1080i . The ps2 is stronger by a mile it just needs the right developper to utilise it to full. Especially shadow of the colossus that game gave the ps2 tough times running at low fps I would say neither xbox or gamecube can compete with the emotion engine

It's the year 2020 and I have still never played a Saturn or Dreamcast.

I don't know anyone who owned a Saturn at the time, although one of my friends is a collector and bought one off eBay in 2017. I knew one guy with the Dreamcast but never actually saw it running.

So basically PS2 versions of these games are worst than the Dreamcast. Honestly that's lazy development.
